Burin

Burin. Cycle-St Mary’s Church, Wighton, Norfolk. NNEP

Burin: A tool for engraving.

Burin takes flint as its starting point: an ancient, tough and beautiful material used by humans for thousands of years.

Burin connects my interest in tools and materials and in learned and lost skills. In my practice, I often explore and re-evaluate the ordinary and the overlooked; the everyday. Existing as forms between organic and abstract, these suspended objects are redolent of the facets of Cubist painting and sculpture.
